The Globalstar system is a unique new method of wireless telecommunications. The tri-
mode phone combines this new satellite communications technology with existing cellular
telecommunications technology. Owning one is like having two phones because there are
two separate and distinct modes of operation.
The successful salesperson must have a working knowledge of the technologies combined
in the tri-mode phone. Besides knowledge of cellular systems and operation, the
salesperson must understand the Globalstar system. This includes:
• The components of the system; user, satellite, ground
• Basic call model
• CDMA and how this gives the Globalstar system more voice clarity and improved
security
The salesperson must also understand how the tri-mode phone is used for service in
Globalstar satellite mode. There are certain operations issues that must be clearly
demonstrated and understood for the customer to enjoy using Globalstar satellite service. It
is also important to understand who needs a Globalstar satellite phone, and to help
customers determine their specific service usage (i.e., how they will use Globalstar and
cellular service).
